Makeup Trends That Need to Die In 2018

  • August 18, 2017

Spring is around the corner and it is time we say goodbye to some horrendous fashion trends that gave us nightmares in the first quarter of the year. These trends have grown way past their natural lifetime and are now becoming boring and crass. Check out my list of the makeup trends that should die before summer arrives.

Overdone highlighter

I know that highlighter was all over the place in 2017 and everybody wanted to look shiny and bright between Halloween and New Year’s Eve. But ladies, that was three months ago when winter was bringing bland and boring outfits our way. It is the beginning of summer and there is no need for you to wear overdone highlighter.

Overdone eyebrows

Oh my god! This trend just doesn’t go away. While thicker eyebrows are still a good thing to have, you don’t need those heavily overdone, super thick eyebrows that were a rage more than 12 months ago. Nobody wants to see brows that cover half your forehead anymore. Tone down the filling game and stick to the basics.

Clumpy lashes

Whoever started this trend was probably joking. You don’t really have to create clumps on the lashes artificially to make them look beautiful. You could end up looking like a badly made horror doll who deserves to be in an antique museum of horrors. Yes, that’s what one of my followers on Instagram had to say about these eyelashes. They don’t look stylish and ruin an otherwise beautiful look.

Lining the lips, way too much

When you are sitting in a studio with bright lights and lining your lips farther than they extend, you will look awesome. Do the same in real life to create super plump lips and everyone will notice that the line begins beyond your lips. I have tried this trend and I couldn’t help but notice who awkwardly the lines show up. Conversations can become a nightmare and you will try to maintain 2 arms’ distance from people so they don’t see that obvious natural lip line. It was a fail and I hope this trend is over soon.

Frosted lipstick

Why are you doing this? This look was adopted in the 90s and looked good in that era. Today, it has made an overdone comeback and looks completely outdated and ‘extra’. This lip trend may look good in pictures but it is totally impractical in daily life. Avoid the frosting, the glitter and anything more than your natural lipstick to look awesome.

Glitter eyeshadow (or glitter anywhere)

In 2017, we saw glitter beards, glitter hairlines, glitter lips and even glitter butts. Then came the glitter eyeshadow and the trend became so ‘extra’ it had to die soon. Glitter looks good for pictures, not in real life. You don’t want it to get into your eyes or stick to your lashes (another nightmare). If you ever used it in your hair, you will realize just why the internet hates glitter.

Are you guilty of these fashion sins in 2018? If yes, then buckle up and make a change. You will be glad you did.
